Ölbohrungen bedrohen Yasuni, das Juwel des ecuadorianischen Regenwalds. Doch in drei Tagen könnte der Haushaltsausschuss für einen Regenwald-Schutzplan stimmen, der Yasuni retten könnte. Unterzeichnen die Notfall-Petition für den Schutzfonds und leiten Sie diese E-Mail weiter:

In drei Tagen könnte Deutschland einen der letzten unberührten Naturschätze der Welt, den Yasuni-Nationalpark im ecuadorianischen Regenwald, vor zerstörerischen Ölbohrungen retten — aber nur, wenn wir jetzt handeln und einen beispiellosen Schutzplan unterstützen.

Der artenreiche Regenwald liegt auf einem gigantischem Ölfeld. Doch anstatt den Wald für kurzfristige Gewinne zu opfern, entschieden sich Ecuador und die UNO, den Park zur Bohrverbotszone zu erklären, sollten sich Länder an Ecuadors wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung beteiligen. Kanzlerin Merkel und der Bundestag versprachen ihre Unterstützung. Die für solche Projekte nötigen Gelder liegen bereit, aber FDP-Entwicklungsminister Niebel blockiert die Initiative. Nun liegt die endgültige Entscheidung beim Haushaltsausschuss — gezielter Druck kann den Ausschuss dazu bringen, Niebel die Stirn zu bieten und Yasuni zu retten.

Drängen wir die Abgeordneten, diesen innovativen Plan zum Schutz eines der wertvollsten Gebiete der Erde zu unterstützen und Deutschlands Führungsrolle beim weltweiten Klimaschutz wiederzubeleben. Nicht nur da ich mich ja ohnehin im Wahlkampf befinde, bzw. besser: Befinden sollte. Ja, meine eigenen „Werbematerialien“ und Aktionen lassen noch immer auf sich warten… Ich bin aber zuversichtig!

Wow! On Monday, thousands of Avaaz members around Germany called the CDU headquarters, asking for CDU participation in climate candidate forums run by our partners at Klima-Allianz. Thanks to this massive influx of calls, the CDU told many of us that they will be working to participate in upcoming forums in Mannheim, Essen, Stendal, and more.[1]

This week, we’ve seen what can happen when we really step up our campaigning: After Monday’s call-in campaign, CDU officials met with Avaaz on Tuesday — and yesterday Secretary Steinmeier accepted our climate petition at the Foreign Ministry. But to get climate leadership, green jobs, and clean energy onto every party’s agenda, we need to roll out even more ambitious plans for how we as German citizens can galvanise a „climate election“.

Avaaz’s Berlin Youth Action Factory is ready and eager to coordinate volunteers around Germany to attend candidate forums, hold media stunts, write blogs, and more — but first, we need thousands of German Avaaz members to actively express interest in getting more involved by signing up as volunteers. The key elements of our ambitious campaign plan include:

• Avaaz members will go to candidate appearances to tell candidates in person that Germans demand climate leadership.
• We’ll use new media like Facebook to reach out to friends and family about clean energy and green jobs.
• And on September 21, just 6 days before the election, we’ll join organizations and activists around the world in sounding a massive climate wake-up call, complete with thousands of flashmobs and rallies around the world and phone-in campaigns to every world (and German!) leader.

If we can pull this off, we’ll be doing something never before seen in German politics: A people-powered grassroots campaign, combining new technologies and tried-and-true tactics to make sure every party knows exactly what German voters expect of them on climate action and a new green economy.

Ich halte das für keine gute Idee. Die CDU ist durchdrungen von den Unternehmen und ihren Lobbyisten, die andere Ziele als den Umweltschutz verfolgen. Nämlich Profitmaximierung. Wenn wir die Politiker zwingen, zu lügen, machen wir sie vielleicht dadurch für uninformierte Leute wählbar und schießen uns damit letztendlich selbst ins Knie. Lassen wir sie bered schweigen. On climate, it’s now or never. We have just under 100 days left before critical UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen, where 192 countries will try to reach a new global treaty to avert climate disaster and unleash a new green economy. With a deal nowhere in sight yet, the EU must lead the world to a strong treaty — and the next German chancellor must lead the EU.

That’s why Avaaz is working closely with Klima-Allianz, a new massive coalition of over 100 German civil society groups from Greenpeace to Oxfam to BUND, to multiply voters‘ voices for climate action. We want to hear from every party, and so far candidates from each of the Greens, the SPD, the Left Party and the FDP have attended the forums. Without German leadership the chances for a fair, ambitious, binding global climate treaty are slim. That’s why it’s so important that Germany’s chancellor candidates feel grassroots pressure to lead the world in climate, energy, and green jobs.
